Seniors from specific California counties who are graduating are eligible to apply for the Banatao Family Filipino American Education Scholarship, which is awarded based on merit. 

Subjects To Be Considered Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund

Applications who are studying the following majors are encouraged to apply for the Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund:

  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Computer science
  • Environmental science
  • Physical science 

NOTE: This grant is not available to those who want to work in the medical field.

Eligibility Criteria For Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund

For the application to be approved, the requirements for scholarship requirements are as follows:

  • Students must be half-Filipino to avail of this scholarship.
  • Students must plan to attend a four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Students must prove financial necessity.
  • Students must submit previous academic success documents and personal strengths, potential, and motivation to win the Banatao Family Filipino American Education Scholarship.
  • Work experience in relevant fields if any.
  • To avail Banatao Family Filipino American Education scholarship, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Students must have a residential record in the following countries:
  • Northern California Counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco,
  • San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus or Yolo
  • Southern California Counties: Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego.

Application Procedure To Apply For Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund

  • Students must submit an updated resume.
  • Previous year’s educational documents copy.
  • Two recommendation letters from the high school teachers.
  • Written essay about the following topics:
  1. Tell us about yourself, including academic and professional ambitions, plans and dreams for the future, and the role or influence of your Filipino background.
  2. Describe your proudest moment and the most difficult task you have faced, whether personally or academically. What have you learned from this experience?
  3. What aspect of engineering, math, or science most interests you, and why? How did you develop this interest?
  4. Describe a project, activity, or person who encouraged you to pursue your academic and/or professional aspirations. How did it affect you?

Optional: Is there anything more you’d like to tell us, such as any unusual family or personal situations that have impacted your academic performance, employment experience, or engagement in school activities?

These documents should be delivered to the physical address.

Reward

A total of five students will win the Banatao Family Filipino American Education scholarship. The reward amount would be $5000 for each student and this amount is renewable for up to four years.

Deadline

If you believe you are eligible, you should learn more about the application process and submit all paperwork to the Asian Pacific Fund before the deadline of February 26th.

Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.
